We are working with a Tier One Main Contractor that is currently looking for a Civil Design Manager to join their team as they have several major infrastructure schemes in the pipeline. 

Role Purpose:

- Design Manager is responsible for the Project Management of the design deliverables to assure the safest, most cost effective and buildable temporary and permanent works designs that meet with the Clients specification and industry standards, within budget and programme constraints;
- To implement the management of design services compliant with Client and company standards;
- Very experienced professional with extensive knowledge of a discipline or first level manager of professionals with limited management authority;
- The Design Managers main focus will be on the delivery of Civil Engineering and Infrastructure Projects.

What you'll be doing
As a Design Manager you will:

- Ensure compliance with the Group Minimum Engineering Expectations;
- Support the Tender or attend the Tender handover;
- Technically appraise the Contract documentation in comparison to the Tender;
- Manage all technical Queries or Requests for Information for timely issue and response;
- Implement Technical Change as required;
- Produce Design Briefs to meet design requirements in support of Designer Services procurement;
- Implement Designer competency assessments;
- Manage the procurement and selection of design consultants;
- Obtain & manage risk in accordance with the CDM regulations;
- Produce a Design Management Plan;
- Ensure provision of an agreed design delivery programme that meets with construction needs;
- Maintain, manage and update the Design Submissions & Approvals register;
- Manage all third party consents to meet contract requirements, maintaining the Consents Register;
- Ensure all associated design interfaces are identified and managed;
- Implement Design Start Up meetings with each design consultant;
- Chair and manage regular Design Review meetings with Designer and Client;
- Maintain a robust document control of all technical documentation and information;
- Ensure the designs have been subject to Independent Design Review;
- Ensure that designs have been subject to Inter-Disciplinary Checking;
- Ensure that the design created suits the methodology adopted for construction;
- Ensure involvement of stakeholders and construction input during design review meetings;
- Manage the appropriate action and response to any reviewer comments;
- Gain full approval of the designs from all approving authorities;
- Manage interfaces with all temporary works designs as required by the Temporary Works Co-ordinator;
- Before construction commencement ensure that design documentation has been approved;
- Implement a design hand over to the construction team;
- Manage Design Change, and record potential impacts against the project budget;
- Support the implementation of the BIM protocols, including teamwork and collaboration and the management and sharing of data relating to BIM models;
- Ensure BIM management during the project ensuring the supply chain is fully aware of BIM requirements.

Who we're looking for:

The following qualities/experience are recommended:

- Degree / HNC / HND / in Construction related subject;
- Progressing towards chartered status or currently chartered;
- Previous Design Management Experience and preferred knowledge of Client Standards and procedures;
- Preferred previous site experience in sector.
