This is a site-based contract expected to run for approximately 26 weeks, with a planned start in early to mid-September. The successful candidate will take responsibility for setting out works accurately, supporting the site team with engineering requirements and ensuring construction activities are delivered in accordance with approved drawings, specifications and programme requirements.
The role will suit an experienced Site Engineer who has worked on light industrial, industrial, warehouse, logistics or similar construction projects and is comfortable working independently using their own setting-out equipment.
Key Responsibilities

- Establish and maintain site control points, benchmarks and reference grids.
- Interpret and work from construction drawings, engineering information and technical specifications.
- Set out foundations, groundworks, structural elements, drainage, external works and other project requirements as required.
- Complete dimensional checks and ensure works are constructed accurately and in line with approved drawings.
- Carry out quality-control checks and identify any setting-out discrepancies or potential issues.
- Work closely with the Site Manager, Project Manager, subcontractors and wider project team.
- Provide engineering support to site operatives and subcontractors throughout the construction process.
- Maintain accurate setting-out records, survey information and site documentation.
- Assist with the preparation and review of as-built information.
- Monitor construction works to ensure the required levels, lines and dimensions are achieved.
- Raise technical or design queries where drawings or site conditions require clarification.
- Support the delivery of the project in line with programme, quality and health and safety requirements.
- Ensure all engineering activities are carried out in accordance with site procedures and relevant legislation.
- Previous experience working as a Setting Out Engineer, Site Engineer or Engineering Surveyor within the construction industry.
- Demonstrable experience delivering light industrial, industrial, warehouse, logistics, manufacturing or similar construction projects.
- Strong experience setting out construction works independently.
- Must be able to provide and competently operate their own setting-out equipment, including a total station and associated surveying equipment.
- Experience setting out a range of construction elements, potentially including groundworks, foundations, drainage, structural works and external works.
- Confident reading and interpreting technical drawings, construction information and engineering specifications.
- Strong understanding of site control, levels, coordinates and dimensional accuracy.
- Experience using relevant setting-out and surveying software would be advantageous.
- Able to work independently while communicating effectively with the wider project team.
- Strong attention to detail with a methodical and accurate approach.
- Good problem-solving skills and the ability to identify potential engineering or construction issues.
- Relevant construction or engineering qualification preferred, although strong practical experience will also be considered.
